If we are not careful, certain fellowship may become invalid and certain communion may be void. Why do I say this? Read on.
1. If you read 1 John 1:3, what do you see? It basically says that brother John touched God in an intimate way, then he brought others into the same enjoyment. In other words, his fellowship with other believers was based on his fellowship with God. Without this, any fellowship is null and void.
2. If you read Ephesians 4:16, what do you see? It says "out from the Head, Christ" we are connected. In other words, if I am not under the headship of Christ in a practical way, my connection with others is invalid.
3. Colosians 2:19 says the same thing: our being supplied and knit together is based on our holding Christ as the Head.
Therefore, here is my conclusion:
Our relationship with the Head determines our relationship with other believers. When we do not hold the Head, our fellowship becomes invalid. Our mutual holding of the Head is the basis of our fellowship. We have no direct communion with one another. Our relationship with other believers should be (indirectly) through the Head. This is the Body of Christ.
Any direct relationship without going through the Head is a natural relationship. It is the source of little circles and divisions.
